Orthofix and Integra Offer Aid
We've been reporting on donations by orthopedic companies for relief efforts in Haiti. Our list is not exhaustive and we will continue to tell our readers of additional donations as they are reported. Reporting the contributions is also a good way to highlight the organizations receiving the aid.
Recently Orthofix International and Integra Lifesciences Holdings announced their contributions to those efforts.
Orthofix employees in California, Texas and Verona, Italy, worked with Direct Relief International and Operation Hope to donate $1 million worth of its spine, orthopedic and bracing products to the relief efforts in Haiti. Additionally, Orthofix and its employees around the world are supporting the relief efforts with individual cash donations to the Red Cross that are being matched by the company.
Integra has donated over $300,000 worth of Jarit and Miltex surgical instruments to Direct Relief International.
Direct Relief International is a non-profit, non-sectarian humanitarian assistance organization based in Santa Barbara, California, that has supplied over $6 million in specifically requested medical material aid to partners in Haiti.
The organization was founded in 1948 and, according to the Integra announcement, has provided more than $1 billion in privately funded humanitarian aid since 2000, including more than $150 million in assistance in the United States.
