Saint Anne’s Hospital of Fall River, Massachusetts, is the 2017 Women’s Choice Award winner for being one of Americas “Best Hospitals for Orthopedics.” The award places Saint Anne’s in the top 11% of U.S. hospitals that offer orthopedic services.
This is not the hospital’s only recognition. Saint Anne’s is one of two hospitals in Massachusetts to earn advanced certification for hip and knee replacement by the Joint Commission and the first hospital in Bristol County to earn designation as a “Blue Distinction Center ” for hip and knee replacement by Blue Cross Blue Shield.
“Earning the 'Best Hospitals for Orthopedics’ designation by the Women's Choice Award is a great tribute to our entire orthopedic team,” said Saint Anne’s Hospital President Michael Bushell. “Not only does it signify our team’s commitment to providing high-level, safe, patient-focused care, from pre-surgical education to post-hospitalization rehabilitation, but also reflects our patients’ high satisfaction with their orthopedic experience. It is gratifying to work with a team that is truly leading the way in orthopedic care.”
Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award noted that women have different orthopedics needs, particularly as they grow older and become more at risk for osteoporosis and fractures. Women, she said, also have different healthcare preferences, which we use to evaluate the recipients of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics. Passi noted that this is the only award that recognizes a hospital’s ability to meet women’s distinctive needs.
Through a national survey conducted by the Women’s Choice Award organization it learned that female orthopedic patients identified the following key priorities when choosing a hospital for orthopedics:
- Single source for orthopedic services
- Solid patient safety record
- High recommendation ratings
Physicians also measured award recipients on their incidence of surgical complications and infections, including a wound that splits open after surgery, accidental cuts and tears, deaths from serious treatable complications, rate of complications for knee or hip replacement patients, catheter-associated urinary tract infections and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections.
The orthopedic clinical team at Saint Anne’s includes board-certified surgeons and anesthesiologists, registered nurses specializing in orthopedics, and physical and occupational therapists with advanced training. Patients and families participate in pre-surgical education to prepare for their surgical experience and are guided through the surgical planning and rehabilitation process by an orthopedic nurse navigator dedicated to assisting joint replacement patients.
The Women’s Choice Award has become a trusted referral source by identifying the country’s best healthcare institutions. The Women’s Choice Award was honored by the INC 5000 List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies in 2016 for a second consecutive year.
