Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy Synthes unit has entered a definitive agreement with JointPoint, Inc. to acquire its JointPoint Navigation Software.
Headquartered in Warsaw, Indiana, DePuy Synthes produces one of the most extensive orthopedic technology portfolios worldwide. These products include implants, instruments, imaging, navigation and other systems and services to support joint reconstruction, craniomaxillofacial, trauma and spinal surgery as well as sports medicine.
Clearwater, Florida based JointPoint, Inc. develops and markets medical technology for digital templating and case planning, non-invasive computer navigation and intra-operative feedback. Its technologies are designed to be surgeon-friendly. The company created JointPoint™, “a hip navigation system for intraoperative analysis and digital templating.” JointPoint Navigation Software was developed to promote improved surgical outcomes for hip replacement patients.
DePuy Synthes has had an exclusive agreement to market the JointPoint platform in the U.S. since July 2017. Under the terms of the recently announced agreement, JointPoint’s proprietary software platform will become a component of DePuy’s Anterior Approach solution called ANTERIOR ADVANTAGE.
ANTERIOR ADVANTAGE will synthesize DePuy Synthes implants and instrumentation technologies with JointPoint surgical navigation programs, which are designed to increase surgical accuracy and reproducibility. The ANTERIOR ADVANTAGE solution also contains the KINCISE Surgical Automated System (which automates and improves the precision of key steps during hip replacement surgery) and the ACTIS Total Hip System. Both the KINCISE System and ACTIS System can also be used in traditional posterior hip replacement approaches.

The financial terms have not been disclosed. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
