One of the most welcome areas of new research is the study of knee osteoarthritis (OA) and how it might affect spinal deformity. A new multicenter study, titled “Impact of Knee Osteoarthritis and Arthroplasty on Full-body Sagittal Alignment in Adult Spinal Deformity Patients,” was just published in the April 15, 2025 edition of Spine.  

Co-author Bassel Diebo, M.D., Director of Spine Research and Innovation at the Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University toldOTW, “The interplay between knee OA and spinal alignment, and the impact of knee OA on patient reported outcomes after spinal deformity reconstruction remain poorly studied.”
