The orthopedic and neurosurgical communities are mourning the tragic loss of Dr. Michael W. Groff, his wife Dr. Joy Saini, and their children, Karenna and Jared, who died in a plane crash on Saturday, April 12, 2025, near Copake, New York. Two close family friends were also on board. The devastating accident has left colleagues, patients, and friends across the country in profound grief.
Dr. Groff was a nationally recognized leader in spine surgery—a brilliant clinician, dedicated mentor, and thoughtful academic whose career blended technical excellence with compassion and service.
