A new 10-year retrospective of 25,095 arthroplasty procedures confirms, again, that aspirin, simple aspirin, remains the most commonly used venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis strategy over the past decade. The study, Ten-Year Trends in Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis at a High-Volume Arthroplasty Center,” was published in the June 15, 2025 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Austin, collected and analyzed data from 25,095 primary total joint arthroplasty procedures performed between 2012 and 2022. “We sought to understand how VTE medication use evolved in light of changing guidelines and literature,” wrote the authors.
