Data Breach Costs Coastal Orthopedics $1.4 Million

Bradenton, Florida-based Coastal Orthopedics & Sports Medicine—a 300 employee, 20 doctor, 19 physician assistants, and nurse practitioners practice—has agreed to pay a $1.4 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit stemming from a June 2023 data breach affecting approximately 203,427 individuals.

The attack on Coastal’s systems occurred between June 6 and June 11, 2023, and effectively compromised patient names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, health insurance details, medical records, and financial account information.
