A new study from Mayo Clinic, published in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons on June 15, 2025, has found that patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) report similar levels of pain relief and functional recovery as those with osteoarthritis (OA) after undergoing direct anterior total hip arthroplasty (THA).
The study, titled “Patient-Reported Outcome Measures After Direct Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty Are Comparable Between Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis: A Propensity-Matched Analysis,” included 230 hips and followed patients for an average of over six years.
