Yes, that second total hip replacement is pretty much like the first. But a significant minority of patients failed to achieve symptom relief. That’s the conclusion from a robust study out of the Cleveland Clinic.
The new study collected data for second total hip arthroplasties (THA) performed at least one year after the first replalcement. How different were the outcomes? This large-scale analysis of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and healthcare utilization, which provided valuable insights into recovery expectations for patients underging staged bilateral total hip arthroplasty is summarized in a paper published in the May 2025 issue of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.
