For Sveinn Sölvason, CEO of Embla Medical, the journey from private equity and corporate finance into the orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) world was unexpected—but profoundly rewarding. “I’ve always considered myself fortunate to have somehow ended up in this industry,” he reflects. “It’s a nice niche, a positive industry, with lots of opportunity to help more people achieve better mobility.”
Sölvason joined Össur in 2009, initially leading corporate development, M&A, and investor relations. He became CFO in 2013, then CEO in 2022, overseeing a transformation that would see the Icelandic company become the centerpiece of Embla Medical—a growing global healthcare group focused on chronic mobility solutions.
