If you’ve been wondering whether platelet-rich plasma (PRP) deserves a seat at the table alongside hyaluronic acid (HA) for managing knee osteoarthritis (OA), a team from Singapore just brought some fresh MRI evidence—and it’s got ortho folks talking.

Their study, “Clinical Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma and Hyaluronic Acid Versus Hyaluronic Acid for Knee Osteoarthritis with MRI Analysis: A Randomized Controlled Trial”, published in the May 2025 edition of the Journal of Clinical Medicine, took a head-to-head look at HA alone vs. HA spiked with a little PRP magic. Spoiler alert: both help with pain, but only one combo landed a jab on bone marrow edema. And yes, there’s imaging to prove it.
