Demetra’s Spine Play: From Bone Cement to “Surgery in a Box”

In an industry where everyone talks about “disrupting” spine, Demetra Holding S.p.A. might actually be doing it—quietly, from Milan, with a scalpel in one hand and a sterile-packed kit in the other.

The Italian-based orthopedic and infection-prevention specialist has officially entered the spine arena with the launch of Demetra Spine, a new global business unit designed to serve the fast-growing outpatient and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) market. The move comes on the heels of its acquisition of OrthoFundamentals, LLC, a U.S. company specializing in implants and single-use instrument kits for sacroiliac (SI) joint fusion—all pre-packed, sterile, and ready to roll into the OR.
