After four years of legal sparring, Globus Medical, Inc. has notched a $9.5 million courtroom victory over competitor Life Spine, Inc. in a closely watched patent infringement case centered on expandable interbody technology.

A Delaware federal jury, under Judge Colm F. Connolly, sided with Globus, awarding $6 million in lost profits and $3.5 million in royalties. The verdict confirms that Life Spine’s PROLIFT Lateral Helo implant infringed upon Globus’ U.S. Patent No. 8,845,731, which covers the company’s RISE® expandable implant.
