Postoperative spine infection (PSI): the dreaded complication that seems to come with a variety of definitions (is it redness? drainage? or that one culture result you’re not quite sure you trust?) now has a multispecialty, Delphi certified, definition.
Noting that PSI has been living rent free in diagnostic limbo — somewhere between “definitely infected” and “let’s just watch it”, the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS) and the European Bone & Joint Infection Society (EBJIS), decided it was time to clean things up.
