Xtant Medical Holdings, Inc. has announced a joint agreement to expand distribution of Pinnacle Spine Group LLC’s InFill Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion System. Through this agreement, Xtant enters the lateral lumbar interbody fusion market, expanding its spinal hardware portfolio.
As indicated in the June 8, 2016 news release, “The foundation of Pinnacle Spine Group’s complete InFill fusion systems is its patented ability to deliver bone graft material to the fusion device in situ. The unique features of the InFill Lateral Fusion device combined with the InFill Graft Delivery System provide the opportunity for a more robust fusion column and maximized bone graft-to-endplate contact. The InFill Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion system is intended for use at either one level or two contiguous levels in the lumbar spine, from L2 to S1.”
“We are excited to partner with Xtant Medical, a recognized industry leader, to bring new and innovative solutions to spine surgeons, ” said Pinnacle President Zach Sowell. “Our patented innovative technology offers a terrific platform for Xtant and Pinnacle to grow their core competencies and expand their scope in the spinal fusion segment.”
“It is a very exciting time for Xtant Medical as we continue to broaden our portfolio. This system will allow Xtant Medical to meet the needs of orthopedic and neuro spine surgeons who currently practice minimally invasive spine surgery or looking to expand their procedural options, ” stated Dr. David Kirschman, executive vice president and chief scientific officer.
Regarding the negotiations, Sowell told OTW, “There were several milestones as we discussed the framework of a partnership, but the most memorable was working together with Xtant and a prominent spine surgeon who specializes in the lateral procedure in a cadaver lab to demonstrate using the InFill Lateral Interbody Fusion System with the InFill Graft Delivery System. Our colleagues at Xtant witnessed first-hand the enormous value that the InFill Lateral System offers, as evidenced by the lateral cage’s generous contact with apophyseal ring and the volume of graft material contained within the disc spaces and contact with each vertebral endplate. It was an exciting moment of truth and clarity that the InFill Lateral Fusion System can add great value both to patients and to surgeons in the operating room.
Asked, “Why this company, why now?” Sowell stated, “Both Pinnacle and Xtant are growing companies with current capabilities that complement each other. The InFill Lateral Interbody Fusion System is novel and has unique features, filling an unmet need for Xtant and helping to grow their biologics capabilities. Together with Xtant, a leader in spine fusion, we can reach a broader set of surgeons and hospital networks to raise greater awareness about the value of our InFill Interbody Fusion Systems, both to patients and surgeons.”
