Medacta International, headquartered in Castel San Pietro, Switzerland, has announced that its MySpine Midline Cortical [MC] Pedicle Screw Placement Guide, a patient-matched technology for posterior lumbar fusions, is commercially available.

MySpine MC, which the company says is a “patient-matched, 3D-printed MySpine MC which guides pedicle screws to a trajectory that evolved from the well-established cortical bone trajectory (CBT).”

“The MySpine MC technique employs a more caudomedial entry point than traditional pedicle screw trajectories and has a less extreme caudal-cranial angle than CBT to avoid interference with the cranial facet joints and to accommodate larger screw diameters and lengths, precisely supported by 3D pre-operative planning.”

The goal of MySpine MC is to provide a more accurate and reliable muscle-sparing approach and, therefore, speed patient recovery and be able to be employed in both inpatient and outpatient surgery settings.

The newly-appointed General Manager of the Spine Division for Medacta USA, Daniel Abromowitz, told OTW, “Medacta USA is dedicated to expanding the use and adoption of our MySpine portfolio, which is used in conjunction with our M.U.S.T. [Medacta Universal Screw Technology] Pedicle Screw System. The MySpine and MySpine MC patient-specific guides offer surgeons the option of choosing a variety of patient specific guide designs depending on their surgical technique and specific patient anatomies for both deformity and degenerative spine procedures.”

“Used exclusively with the M.U.S.T. Pedicle Screw System, MySpine and MySpine MC solutions provide surgeons an interactive pre-surgical planning platform to ensure higher accuracy in pedicle screw placement with less reliance on fluoroscopy.”

“Medacta USA is dedicated to increasing our sales presence and impact across the U.S. We are now focused exclusively on working with independent agents looking to partner with an innovative company that puts the surgeon first with our M.O.R.E (Medacta Orthopaedic Research and Education) Institute. Medacta is an innovative company that provides relentless customer focus to train, educate, and expand the portfolio and market present of both our surgeon and agent partners.”

“The 9th M.O.R.E International Symposium will be held April 11-13, 2019, in Lugano, Switzerland. With an anticipated attendance of over 1,200 surgeon attendees, including 300 spine surgeons from around the world, this global gathering of industry experts will provide U.S. surgeons an opportunity to have an interactive discussion on techniques, products, outcomes, and strategies to expand their knowledge of leading-edge medical technology. Co-Chaired by Richard Guyer, M.D., co-founder of the Texas Back Institute and director of its Spine Fellowship Program, the 9th M.O.R.E International Symposium is expected to have over 40 spine surgeon attendees from the U.S., and we are looking forward to working with surgeon leaders in attendance at this thought-leading educational symposium.”
