Camber Spine Technologies, LLC. co-founder and CEO, Daniel Pontecorvo, has been named as one of Ernst & Young, LLP.’s finalists for the 34th Entrepreneur of the Year® 2020 Greater Philadelphia Award.
The award honors business leaders whose “ambitions delivery innovation, growth, and prosperity as they build and sustain successful businesses that transform our world,” reads the press release from Camber. The award program, which includes worldwide, national, and 21 U.S. regional awards was established by Ernst & Young, LLP in 1986 to recognize “the endeavors of exceptional men and women who create the products and services that keep our worldwide economy moving forward,” according to a statement on the Ernst & Young website.
Pontecorvo is one of two dozen Philadelphia-area entrepreneurs and will learn of the winner in early October during a virtual event. Nominees are evaluated on six criteria: overcoming adversity, financial performance, societal impact and commitment to building a values-based company, innovation, and talent management.
In 2010, Pontecorvo established Camber Spine Technologies, LLC along with Bob Morris, and Seth Anderson, who are both still with the company. In addition to founding Camber he also co-founded The Institute of Musculoskeletal Science and Education, is a partner in Propel Orthopedics, and is CEO and lead investor in a medical technology start-up called Puratec. Finally, he was involved in the launch of Camber Cares, a nonprofit that gives back to the community through community service, mentoring, and volunteering.
Regarding the announcement, Pontecorvo said, “I am humbled to learn today of my nomination as a finalist…when I began assembling with my partners the building blocks that would be the foundation for an innovative medical devices company oriented around solving physician frustrations that produce better outcomes for patients, I had no certainty that ten years later, we would be where we are today as a recognized growing middle market life sciences enterprise in the exciting Philly metro life sciences corridor.” He continued by recognizing the contributions of his partners and employees, “Surrounded by and supported by not only my partners but also an extremely talented group of people, I accept this nomination with profound thanks to our people, customers and stakeholders who have helped Camber Spine to grow to where we are today and will help us get to next.”
