A new, retrospective, case controlled study is reporting that total knee arthroplasty patients treated preoperatively for pain using cryoneurolysis used 51% fewer opioids than the control group. Furthermore, the pain mitigation lasted for months postoperatively.
Cryoneurolysis is the direct application of cold temperatures to a peripheral nerve, resulting in a reversible ablation due to Wallerian degeneration and nerve regeneration.
