Coleen S. Sabatini, M.D., M.P.H., a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, has been honored with the 2025 Humanitarian Award from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Dr. Sabatini is being recognized for her unwavering dedication to caring for children with musculoskeletal conditions both domestically and abroad.
When OTW asked what led to her interest in orthopedic equity, Dr. Sabatini explained, “From a young age, I have been deeply concerned about societal injustices, particularly in relation to access to education, healthcare, and opportunities. As a medical student over 20 years ago, with a strong passion for addressing health disparities, I initially had reservations about pursuing a career in orthopaedics.”
