For ACL patients, the first year after reconstruction is a balancing act. Push too little, and you risk stiffness, weakness and a sluggish return to sport. Push too hard…well, that’s been less clear.

A new study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise suggests the answer might not be as reassuring as many would hope: More activity early on may feel good — but it could quietly be nudging the knee toward osteoarthritis.
