Global medical device company LimaCorporate has announced the official opening of its Research and Innovation Center (R&I Center) and the Advanced Laboratory for Testing and Analysis (ATLAs). The new facilities, which cover over 1,000-square meters (or over 10,750 square feet), are located in the company headquarters campus in San Daniele del Friuli, Udine, Italy. The facilities are dedicated to 3D-printing and advanced orthopedics development and testing.
The R&I Center will be led by a team of over 50 engineers and the addition “represents a hub of excellence that will leverage 3D printing expertise to accelerate the development of new and innovative orthopedic implant solutions.” Digital data will be collected at the launch of each production round, in turn fueling research.
The new ATLAs labs are “the core of the experimental verification and simulation of new and innovative materials, production processes and orthopedic solutions, representing the new world of mechanical and chemical competencies inside LimaCorporate.” An industry-oriented web application will be used to manage the laboratory, via a comprehensive digital picture of activities and data.
The company says that the new facilities will strengthen collaboration between departments and orthopedic surgeons and provide increased support for all aspects of new product development. In addition, LimaCorporate describes this as a new window of opportunity to create industrial, orthopedic, and academic connections with scientists, surgeons, scientists and other potential partners.
LimaCorporate CEO, Luigi Ferrari, told OTW, “We are really proud of this new facility, which represents a world class center summarizing over 12 years of LimaCorporate experience in 3D-printing of medical devices. The R&I Center will give us the possibility to further boost the development of new innovative orthopedic devices by having our printing expertise in a single location and will allow us to test new technologies sooner therefore allowing us to maintain our leadership position.”
