The legendary sports medicine and orthopaedic Andrews Institute has now partnered with New Orleans, Louisiana-based Ochsner Health. This latest in a series of Andrews Institute partnership is a five-year agreement and will create The Ochsner Andrews Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Institute.
“Our award-winning orthopedic and sports medicine team is excited to partner with Andrews Medicine and gain valuable insights from Dr. Andrews [James Andrews, M.D.] that will allow us to continue growing and improving upon the care our patients and athletes have come to expect and rely on,” said orthopedic surgeon and Section Head of Sports Medicine at Ochsner Health, Deryk Jones, M.D. “Through this partnership, we will be able to offer a nationally recognized and competitive sports medicine fellowship program to train the next generation of physicians.”
Ochsner Health currently employs over 36 highly trained orthopedic surgeons in 25 clinical locations, and over 40 advanced practice ortho providers, offering pediatric and oncology care, surgical care, and sophisticated rehab equipment, providing the highest level of orthopedic care in the Gulf South.
Ochsner also works directly with 160 highly athletic trainers and a team of sports medicine assistants and high-level performance training coaches at more than 100 colleges, high schools and sports clubs, and is additionally the official healthcare provider of the New Orleans Pelicans and Saints.
Ochsner features physical medicine and orthopedic rehab specialist Nicholas Goyeneche, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and Physician Vice-Lead Benjamin Guevara, M.D., and Head Team Physician for the New Orleans Saints, esteemed orthopedic surgeon Karim Meijer, M.D. Ochsner is a national Center of Excellence for total joint and spine surgery and is the only hospital in Louisiana to hold a Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement.
The combination of Dr. Andrews and Dr. Ochsner is quite spectacular.

Dr. Andrews, whose name graces his famous Institute, has deep roots in Louisiana having received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine and completed residency at Tulane Medical School. Dr. Andrews fellowships in sports medicine and knee surgery came from the University of Virginia as well as the University of Lyon in France.
Dr. Andrew’s is one of the greatest sports medicine physicians in history. He has mentored over 650 ortho sports medicine fellows and more than 80 primary care sports medicine fellows—so far. He is, of course, co-founder of the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, based in Birmingham, Alabama, the Andrews Research and Education Foundation in Pensacola, and American Sports Medicine Institute, also in Birmingham.
