If something is not up to snuff, the Rothman Institute’s newest hire will get right on it. James F. Pelegano, M.D., MS has joined the Philadelphia orthopedic landmark as the new Quality Director. Dr. Pelegano will be responsible for overseeing all of the quality initiatives at the Rothman Institute.
“I am incredibly proud of the work we have done at the Rothman Institute that affords us the reputation for unsurpassed service and quality care, ” remarked Mike West, CEO, in the news releases. “I’m confident that Dr. Pelegano will continue to exceed expectations in this area.”
Dr. Pelegano comes to Rothman from the Huron Consulting Group where he was Director of Medical Consulting. He received his doctorate of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome, Italy, and completed his Pediatric Residency at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Dr. Pelegano then did a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center. In addition, he holds a Masters of Science in Health Care Management from Harvard University School of Public Health.
Dr. Pelegano told OTW,
I learned a long time ago that the first thing one does in a new position is to ‘listen.’ That applies even more so in the area of medical quality and medical quality improvement. Health care is a complex system with many, many people involved in the delivery of medical care. Before you can build a culture that allows for and promotes improved quality, you have to understand everyone’s stake in the system and everyone’s understanding of what ‘quality’ really means.
Dr. Pelegano also commented to OTW,
The Rothman Institute has a reputation of delivering ‘quality’ care, but what that exactly means to each member of the Rothman team can be very different. So, my first job is to understand what all the stakeholders, physicians, nurses, physical therapists, allied health professionals and administrators see as ‘quality’ with respect to their individual jobs and then help to bring that all together in one unified vision moving forward.
