Zachary D. Post, M.D. has packed up his rural life out West and is bringing his joint surgery knowledge to the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. Dr. Post earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He did his hip and knee arthroplasty fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital under Richard H. Rothman, M.D. and William J. Hozack, M.D.
“We’re delighted to have Dr. Post join the Rothman organization, ” said Mike West, CEO, in the July 20, 2011 news release. “His wealth of knowledge in joint surgery will be a wonderful addition to our Egg Harbor team.”
Dr. Post was previously in private practice in Montana and Utah. He is an expert in hip and knee arthroplasty and reconstruction, among other things.
When asked what he brings to Rothman, Dr. Post told OTW, “It’s hard to bring anything to Rothman that they don’t already have. It is a fantastic practice. The one element I might add is the perspective of practicing in a small town in a more independent fashion. I worked in Montana for a couple of years prior to joining the Rothman Institute. Montana presents challenges that you don’t encounter much on the east coast. You have to learn to work through issues like patients who live 250 miles from a care facility, or getting a rancher to be non-weight bearing. Those experiences and the lessons learned, I hope, will add to my practice here as well as the Rothman Institute as a whole.”
As for how he will move forward, Dr. Post commented to OTW, “The first thing I want to do is get to know the medical community and establish my practice. After that I would like to extend the full research capabilities of the Rothman Institute to our office down at the shore. Drs. Alvin Ong and Fabio Orozco have established a prolific practice here. I need to find a way to incorporate their incredible volume into meaningful research. There are incredible studies here that are just waiting to be done. I’m excited by all the possibilities that this new challenge holds.”

I was at my dentist and I told him about my hip surgery and my new titanium hip. He asked if I should take antibiotics before dental surgeries.
I’m not sure why but my question is, should I or do I need antibiotics prior to dental surgeries? Thanks so much.
