On April 1, Orchid India opened a 28, 400 square foot facility in Pune, India. The new entity, known as Orchid India Medisolutions Private Ltd., will expand its capabilities over time to serve local, regional and global customers (including other Orchid sites). The company intends to add a clean room to provide sterile packaging services and also finishing and coating services.
“We are very proud of all the work our Asia team performed to make this dream a reality. Our customers are just as excited as we are to move into a new facility, ” Chief Administrative Officer said Jorge M. Ramos in the May 20, 2015 news release.
Asked what makes Pune a good location for Orchid, Ramos told OTW, “Pune has a strong industrial base with access to a large talent pool. A number of well-known global firms are located in Pune because of this. In addition, Pune is located within a three hour drive of Mumbai.”
He added, “As far as we know, we are the first major orthopedic contract manufacturer (domestic or foreign) to be located in India. We expect this facility to grow at a rapid pace, hand-in-hand with the burgeoning medical device industry in India and Asia in general.”
Good to know that global companies in MD&D sector are showing interest in India and giving access to the Indian talent pool. Hopefully this will grow in future.
