Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush will continue to be the “go-to” medical facility for The Chicago Steel, a member team of the United States Hockey League. Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush will serve as the team’s physician group for the 2015-2016 season; this will be the team’s first season at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
As indicated in the October 5, 2015 news release, “Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush has served as team physician for the Steel since 2009 with Dr. Shane Nho overseeing the care of Steel players. He is passionate about hockey, having been a member of the Northwestern Wildcats men’s hockey team.”
“Our medical staff has kept the Chicago Steel players and its community healthy and active, both on and off the ice, since 2009, ” Dr. Nho explained in the news release. “They are the future stars in USA Hockey and I am proud to lead our physician team to help them safely reach their goals.”
“We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, ” said Steel President Dan Lehv. “The physician team, led by Dr. Nho, has vast experience working with elite athletes, and we’re confident that our players will receive outstanding care.”
Asked how being a hockey player has influenced the way he interacts with the athletes, Dr. Nho told OTW, “As a former hockey player, I can relate to the players, coaches, and training staff. I understand their desire to compete and win at all cost. Sometimes, the players have injuries and their safety is our number one priority. We will do everything we can to treat them in a timely fashion or find them the appropriate specialist so we can minimize their time off the ice.”
Asked about their goals, Dr. Nho stated, “The players on the Chicago Steel are among the best players in North America and Europe. Many of the players will play in college, semi-professional, or professional hockey when they leave Chicago. We understand the importance of their health while with the Steel as well as the future careers.”
