Hassan Mir, M.D., Director of Orthopaedic Trauma Research at Florida Orthopaedic Institute, has been awarded the American-British-Canadian Traveling Fellowship by the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA).
According to the AOA, the fellowship recognizes young leaders for their early contributions to orthopaedics, identifying and promoting their leadership skills to the broader orthopaedic community.
Since 1948, fellows have traveled for four to five weeks touring orthopaedic centers in United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and North America, depending on the year.
“This is a distinct honor and one of the highest awards given in Orthopaedics,” says Roy Sanders, M.D., President and Chief Medical Officer of Florida Orthopaedic Institute. “The American Orthopaedic Association equips orthopaedic surgeons with knowledge and skills necessary to lead effectively in the ever-changing landscape of the healthcare environment. We’re proud of Dr. Mir and this prestigious recognition.”
Dr. Mir, who is also the Director of the Orthopaedic Residency Program at the University of South Florida, obtained his undergraduate degree at West Virginia University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine from West Virginia University in 2003 and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha. Mir completed his Physician Executive MBA at Auburn University.
Dr. Mir told OTW, “I feel greatly honored to have been awarded the 2019 AOA-ABC Traveling Fellowship. It is an outstanding opportunity to further develop in several areas—clinical, educational, research, mentorship, and leadership. It will be fascinating to see different ways of doing things at leading international centers in Spring 2019. I thank my wife and children, and my colleagues at work for supporting me to embark on this journey.”
