Heraeus Medical LLC has announced the addition of the PALACOS R & R+G pro All-in-One Fixation System which integrates the “… PALACOS bone cement into a ready-to-mix closed vacuum system.”
The company states that “By adding an efficient, sterile workflow to the gold standard in cement, PALACOS R & R+G pro brings a new level of simplification and standardization in joint arthroplasty procedures.”
The PALACOS R & R+G pro is an “… all-in-one cement and vacuum mixing system that requires fewer steps and less time to prepare. The completely closed vacuum system minimizes the risk of bone cement contamination with safe, contactless handling. In addition, vacuum mixing reduces porosity, improves cement homogeneity, and strengthens the cement-prosthesis interface.”
“PALACOS R & R+G has been shown to elute the highest proportion of antibiotic to surrounding tissue, minimizing the risk of infection in the implant with a reduced systemic load.”
“Surgeons have relied on and trusted our high-quality PALACOS products for decades, and our ready-to-mix closed vacuum system is an exciting addition to the PALACOS portfolio in the United States,” stated company Vice President and General Manager Devin Childers. “The benefits of PALACOS pro support our mission to continuously provide solutions that lead to improved outcomes for patients undergoing joint arthroplasty procedures.”
Devin Childers told OTW, “Variability in techniques/approaches/pricing make universal savings calculations challenging. Press fit implants are approximately 20% more expensive than cemented and there is strong published data on the performance of cemented implants. The new PRO all-in-one system streamlines the cementing process by enabling the surgical team to mix it in a simple process.”
“The system’s one-time use eliminates the need for a costly, highly specialized and time-consuming sterilization process or additional mixing products in an outpatient setting. This will free up resources and enable more efficient utilization of personnel. Outpatient arthroplasty procedures are expected to dramatically rise in the coming years, and it will be especially important for doctors in these settings to be aware of the importance of good cementing technique.”
