Stephen B. Gross, M.D., who formerly served as a U.S. Air Force orthopedic surgeon and major, has joined the team of specialized physicians at University Orthopedics in East Providence, Rhode Island.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Gross join the University Orthopedics team. In addition to the vast amount of experience and insight he brings to the position, Dr. Gross is also dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care,” said Dr. Edward Akelman, president of University Orthopedics.
Dr. Gross has extensive training in orthopedic care and can treat a variety of muscle, joint, and bone injuries. An advocate for minimally invasive solutions, Dr. Gross developed a reputation for developing effective medical plans that placed patients’ interests first. Through comprehensive approaches to care that encompass solutions such as physical therapy, he has helped countless patients return to their day-to-day activities.
“I am excited to join a team of physicians who are leading the way in orthopedic care,” Dr. Gross said. “University Orthopedics is constantly looking for ways to improve the patient experience, and I am proud to join them in their mission.”
Dr. Gross was a partner at Active Orthopedics before becoming the sole owner of Ninigret Orthopedics in Westerly, Rhode Island. He also served as a staff orthopedic surgeon at the Center of Musculoskeletal Care, which is part of the Yale Medicine and Yale New Haven Health system.
Dr. Gross earned his medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
Dr. Gross told OTW, “My 25 years of experience as an orthopedic surgeon in the Westerly area has made it clear how important competent sub-specialty care is. My affiliation with UOI (University Orthopedics) brings that to Westerly. Being cared for locally is critical for many of my patients. The first steps will be involved with fully incorporating my partners into this community. This means making sure the office experience and operating room are fully outfitted for state-of-the-art orthopedic care.”
