Merrick, New York-based Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group, an affiliate of Northwell Health, has acquired Healthcare Associates in Medicine (HCA).
Staten Island, New York-based HCA has six clinic offices and 18 doctors in Staten Island and Brooklyn. In addition to orthopedics, HCA also provides MRI, neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology, pain management, occupational therapy, and electro-diagnostic testing services.
Glenn Babus, D.O., and John Reilly, M.D., will retain their leadership roles with HCA. Dr. Babus has been in practice for over 27 years and is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management physician. Dr. Reilly has been in practice for over 26 years and is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon.
The Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group CEO Michael Passet commented on the acquisition, “While HCA is already the dominant musculoskeletal practice on Staten Island, we look forward to utilizing our resources and position within the Northwell system to collaboratively capitalize on a number of further expansion opportunities both within and beyond their current markets.”
Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group has office locations across Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island. This acquisition will expand the Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group’s geographic reach to New York City and increase its practice to 20 offices. Signage at the HCA locations will now read “Healthcare Associates in Medicine—A division of Orlin & Cohen Medical.”
Last year, HCA celebrated its 25th anniversary with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce. HCA started as Concord Neurological and Neurosurgical Associates in 1970. The group is touted for bringing the first CT scan equipment to Staten Island. Fifty years later, HCA’s staff includes countless employees, doctors, physician assistants, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
The COVID-19 health crisis has changed the dynamics of many orthopedic practices. Is this acquisition just the first of many for the orthopedic community?
