Salt Lake City, Utah-based Total Joint Orthopedics, Inc. (TJO) is partnering with Fremont, California-based THINK SurgicalĀ®, Inc. to bring a new technical solution to the knee surgery space.
The companies announced that THINK Surgical will develop software that TJOās KlassicĀ® Knee System to be implanted using THINKās TSolution OneĀ® Total Knee Application. The companies plan to co-market the solution upon receival of 510(k) clearance to use the Klassic Knee System with the TSolution One Total Knee Application.
TJO CEO Erin Hofmann spoke with OTW about the partnership. Hofmann told OTW, āWe are excited about the TJO-THINK partnership as this expands our Evolution of Technology offerings for surgeons seeking a technological solution for total joint replacement.ā
TJO focuses on improving operating room efficiency. Introduced in 2013, the Klassic Knee System utilizes a āmodern, universal knee designā to restore ānatural kinematic function.ā With TJOās instrumentation, the Klassic Knee only utilizes one tray in 90% of cases.
THINK Surgical CEO Jay Yang also discussed the partnership. āTHINK Surgical looks forward to the addition of TJOās Klassic Knee System to our open implant library, providing surgeons another choice in the treatment of patients with end-stage knee arthritis.ā
Yang continued, āMuch like the advanced technology offered by TJO, THINK Surgicalās TSolution One Total Knee Application, which features an active robot, is taking orthopedic surgery further in providing consistency and dimensional accuracy in total joint replacement procedures.ā
The TSolution One Total Knee Application unites two total joint replacement inventions, TPLANĀ® and TCATĀ®. TPLAN is a pre-surgical planning workstation. It allows the surgeon to virtually create the patientās joint replacement plan. TCAT is an active robot that aids the surgeon in performing the preoperative plan.
Looking forward, TJO is excited for 2021. Erin Hofmann told OTW, “2021 will be big year for TJO with a number of exciting product introductions in both the knee and hip space along with the ability to robotically implant TJO’s proven Klassic Knee.”
