Quebec City, Canada-based Bodycad and Gainesville, Florida-based Exactech, Inc. have entered into an exclusive United States distribution contract for Bodycad’s Reflex Uni™ knee.

The Reflex Uni™ knee will be part of Exactech’s Truliant® Knee System platform of implants, instruments, and other technologies for primary and revision knee arthroplasty. With the addition, Exactech will be able to offer a “personalized unicompartmental implant that is designed to fit each patient’s unique anatomy.”

Exactech Senior Vice President of Large Joints John McDaniel discussed the importance of the new implant. McDaniel said, “Innovation in unicompartmental knee implants has been stagnant for years. We intentionally delayed offering a partial knee until we had something that could address the shortcomings of existing designs.”

McDaniel continued, “With Truliant Reflex Uni, surgeons have the option to change implant design and placement to meet the needs of each patient. We’re excited about this personalized solution and its potential to maximize bone coverage, achieve proper alignment and optimize joint function.”

Bodycad used a 3D printing which incorporated “a proprietary software algorithm and fully integrated production system,” to achieve the goal of a “patient-specific unicompartmental knee replacement.” The implant system comes pre-sterilized and only requires a single instrument tray. It can be used in both hospital and ambulatory surgery center environments and requires no off-the-shelf implants.

Bodycad CEO and Founder Jean Robichaud told OTW, ”Bodycad’s indisputable expertise in the computer design of personalized unicompartmental prostheses united with the knowledgeable U.S. sales force of Exactech is a union which will allow us to raise the success of a personalized joint restoration.”

Earlier this year Truliant Reflex Uni by Bodycad received 510(k) clearance. It will have limited market availability in early 2021 but a full release by the end of 2021.
