Akron, Ohio-based Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center plans to open a new specialty hospital for orthopedic and reconstructive/plastic surgery this fall.
Crystal Clinic is a physician-owned, orthopedic specialty hospital system. The new 165,000-square-foot hospital located in Fairlawn, Ohio, will replace Crystal Clinic’s current inpatient and surgical space in Akron, Ohio.
Readers may be surprised to find out that the new center has been more than a decade in the making. Crystal Clinic Chief Nursing and Operations Officer Holli Cholley, R.N., BSN, MBA told OTW, “Originally, we were in the design phase before the economy declined back in 2008-2009, at which time we put a hold on our project. After the economic rebound, we started again but took a fresh step backwards to better understand our patient population and the community we are serving.”
Construction of the new facility began in fall 2019. It allows Crystal Clinic to consolidate staff and meet the needs of its growing hospital system. Cholley told OTW, “It just made sense that we could achieve such efficiencies by having our inpatient facility so close to our ambulatory surgery center, three large outpatient clinics, physical therapy, QuickCare and radiology services such as MRI [magnetic resonance imaging].”
The new three level hospital boasts 12 spacious operating rooms that will house the “latest, leading-edge technologies.” Its 60 private patient rooms with private bathrooms will utilize elements from the hospitality industry to “create a calming and relaxing patient environment.”
Cholley was eager to share her excitement about the new facility with OTW, stating, “First and foremost, this hospital has been planned with the patient and their family at the forefront. We have taken so much time in the planning and design phase to ensure that the patient care we provide is the most efficient, and the hospital has all the amenities and ambiance of a hotel, where patients can relax and focus on their recovery and getting back to doing the things they enjoy most.”
Cholley continued, “I get so excited being on-site as construction unfolds and I can now start to see and feel how our work will be experienced by our patients.”
