Enola Pennsylvania—200 miles due east of Pittsburgh, a mere stone’s throw away from the capital of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Harrisburg) is the newest outpost of the world-renowned University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

Pictured is UPMC West Shore Orthopaedics which is open to serve residents on the west shore of the legendary Susquehanna River. Harrisburg is on the east shore, literally the length of a football field away.

Scheduled to officially open April 1, 2021, the center is accepting patient appointments and provider referrals. UPMC West Shore Orthopaedics will share the same site as Arlington Orthopedics-UPMC, a four-provider facility offering orthopedic surgical treatment, imaging, pain management, and rehabilitation services.

The UPMC West Shore Orthopaedics team has a number of orthopedic surgeons including Steven Wolf, M.D.; Michael Werner, M.D.; Nathan Wool, M.D.; Torre Ruth, M.D.; and Casey Kiser, M.D. Other members of the practice include podiatrist Oumou Belemou, DPM and Thomas Chu, D.O., who specializes in sports medicine and internal medicine.

Lou Baverso, president of Central Region, UPMC Pinnacle told OTW, “The clinicians at UPMC West Shore Orthopaedics provide not only general orthopedic care, but also effectively treat specific areas of pain or injury to get our patients pain-free and moving again. We are most excited about offering this comprehensive range of orthopedic care under one roof.”

Patients of UPMC West Shore Orthopaedics can receive treatment for a “range of bone and joint conditions from running injuries to hip replacements.” Orthopedic care includes an assortment of techniques and the “latest cutting-edge surgeries.”

UPMC Pinnacle President Philip Guarneschelli, FACHE added, “The new UPMC West Shore Orthopaedics practice further strengthens our network of employed and independent orthopaedic providers committed to giving our patients exceptional spine, bone and joint care.”

UPMC is the largest nongovernment employer in Pennsylvania. UPMC has 92,000 staff members; 40 academic, community, and specialty hospitals; 700 doctors’ offices and outpatient sites; 4,900 employed doctors; and an array of rehab, retirement, and long-term care options. UPMC West Shore Orthopaedics plans to open a second location in Carlisle, Pennsylvania this spring.
