The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has added Redwood City, California-based Suki AI, Inc., a provider of health care targeted voice technology, to its Membership Advantage Program.
Founded in 1933, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons provides musculoskeletal education to orthopedic surgeons and others across the globe. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons partners with prominent providers to offer its more than 39,000 members cost-effective solutions. Through its Member Advantage Program, members can access a variety of discounts and savings on the “most reliable and relevant products and services.”
Members can now access Suki’s voice technology solutions, including Suki AI (artificial intelligence) Assistant and Suki Speech Service. Suki AI Assistant is a “voice-enabled, AI-powered clinical digital assistant.” Its production information indicates that it uses machine learning and natural language processing to “help doctors save time on common tasks.” To use Suki AI Assistant, doctors simply speak to it in their regular voice. It can assist with clinical notes, coding, and information retrieval from electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
The time-saving solution has the potential to help physicians, providers, and health care systems. Notably, it can help practitioners with their administrative workload. According to the press release, the Suki AI Assistant can significantly reduce the time orthopedists spend on clinical notes by cutting the average time per note by more than half. Furthermore, the press release indicates that the Suki AI Assistant can help orthopedic surgeons obtain up to $48,000 in additional annual revenue.
OrthoAtlanta Medical Director and orthopedic surgeon Michael Behr, M.D., FAAOS has used the Suki AI Assistant since 2018. Dr. Behr told OTW, “The Suki AI Assistant effortlessly incorporated into our workflow. The learning curve is minimal, so there is no training, and because Suki uses existing devices, there was also no time or money spent on installing hardware. We have found the physicians’ assessments at our practice are more thorough and completed quicker.”
Dr. Behr continued, “The Suki AI Assistant is saving each user an average of 45 minutes each day, which means we get more time with our patients and more time for ourselves. That’s critical to us. In addition, an analysis was done that showed Suki helped our physicians increase their patient encounters by 12% and reduced the percentage of claims denied because the notes were more detailed—this results in more revenue for our practice.”
