New York, New York-based Kaia Health has raised $75 million in its Series C funding round, bringing its funding total to $125 million.
Kaia Health is a digital therapeutics company. Its musculoskeletal (MSK) platform includes MSK Therapy, Kaia Gateway, and Premium Partner. Its MSK Therapy solution includes Motion Coach™️, a smartphone or tablet-based digital personal trainer. Kaia Gateway, launched earlier this year along with Premium Partner, includes case review and clinical triage algorithms.
OTW spoke with Kaia Health President, CEO, and Founder Konstantin Mehl about its digital therapeutics products and how the company sets itself apart from its competitors. Mehl told OTW, “Our motion tracking capability allows users to get real time feedback on how well they do their exercises without needing additional hardware or live interaction with a PT [physical therapist]. Kaia [Health] is the only company able to do that in the MSK market.”
Mehl continued, “Kaia Gateway includes a more sophisticated way of triage to direct those users directly to the app who should go there first and direct other users to the case review team that Kaia [Health] has in house. This review team can then escalate cases to external partners which we [Kaia Health] call ‘premium partners.’ Previously, Kaia [Health] only offered a limited triage and health coaches.”
An unnamed growth equity fund led the funding round. Existing investors also participated including Optum Ventures, Eurazeo, 3VC, Balderton Capital, Heartcore Capital, Symphony Ventures, and A-Round Capital. The funding will be used for commercial growth and product expansion.
Mehl discussed Kaia Health’s priorities with OTW, including Kaia Health’s plan to invest in three areas. Mehl told OTW that the first area of focus will be building out Kaia Health’s “commercial team in the U.S.”
Mehl continued to explain to OTW that the second area of focus will be to “further elevate the product experience for our [Kaia Health] users. For example we [Kaia Health] will further integrate with medical providers and enhance our coaching capabilities.”
Finally, Kaia Health’s third area of focus will be computer vision. According to Mehl, “We have pioneered the use of computer vision in the MSK space (exercise feedback and biomarkers) and will double down on R&D [research and development].”
