Arlington, Tennessee-based MicroPort Orthopedics Inc., a global orthopedic device and technology company, has proudly announced that C. Lowry Barnes, M.D. has joined its leadership team as medical director.
A board certified and fellowship trained total joint surgeon, Dr. Barnes is the chair of orthopaedics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Health in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has a keen interest in hip and knee replacement surgery and has globally influenced the orthopedic industry through his expertise and teaching. Recently, Dr. Barnes served as the president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is also the editor of The Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances and serves on the editorial board of various other scientific journals.
Dr. Barnes’s relationship with MicroPort Orthopedics stems from his involvement with its predecessor company where he was a design surgeon. He worked on many of the predecessor company’s implants including the Evolution® Knee, a medial pivot knee system. In his new role as medical director, Dr. Barnes will “play a key role in the strategic decision-making and vision of the company, including medical education and training, clinical research, product development, surgeon relations, and same-day surgical procedures around the world.”
Dr. Barnes commented, “I have enjoyed working with the leadership team at MicroPort, and I look forward to engaging with their international sales team as we develop a high-touch, high tech approach to surgeon engagement.”
Dr. Barnes continued, “The opportunity to expand my role as medical director will allow for accelerated progress in innovation, leadership, and education—further establishing MicroPort as a leader in the medical device industry.”
