Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based Tyber Medical LLC, an orthopedic device manufacturer, has entered into an agreement to acquire Bonita Springs, Florida-based CatapultMD.
Founded in 2012, Tyber Medical gives companies access to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared and CE marked spine, trauma, and extremity implants. Over the past nine years, Tyber Medical has released more than 50 spine, trauma, and extremity systems.
CatapultMD manufactures orthopedic instruments and implants. CatapultMD Co-Founder Len Zaiser has founded eight different manufacturing companies, including Naples, Florida-based Structure Medical. Once the transaction is complete, Zaiser, CatapultMD Co-Founder Oliver Zaiser, and up to 22 additional CatapultMD team members are expected to join Tyber Medical’s 120-person workforce.
The companies expect the transaction to close by the end of the year. Once complete, Tyber Medical will double its manufacturing space to 100,000-square feet. According to the company, the acquisition includes “over 40 CNC [computer numerical control] Swiss machines and 10, 5-axis CNC mills for manufacturing plates, screws, spinal implants, and instrumentation used in orthopedic surgery.”
The past year has been eventful for Tyber Medical. In addition to the planned acquisition, Tyber Medical has received two FDA 510(k) clearances for its anatomical plating systems. For OTW’s coverage of the recent FDA clearances, see “Largest FDA Clearance…Ever.”
Tyber Medical Chief Executive Officer and Founder Jeff Tyber commented on the company’s growth and planned acquisition, “We’ve been on a significant growth trajectory fueled by our expert research and development team, outstanding engineering capability, and our recent FDA clearances.”
Tyber continued, “Our acquisition of CatapultMD’s top-of-the-line CNC automation and inspection capabilities seamlessly aligns with our strict MDSAP [Medical Device Single Audit Program] and ISO [International Organization for Standardization] 13485 quality standards and enables us to meet and exceed our growing demand by instantaneously doubling our internal manufacturing and processing capacity.”
