Bryan D. Den Hartog, M.D., a foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Minnesota, Minnesota, is the new president of American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). Formerly president and treasurer of the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AOFAS, Dr. Hartog will also serve on the foundation’s Board of Directors.
“I am looking forward to leading the Society that has meant so much to me professionally and personally,” said Dr. Hartog. “I will work with the incredible AOFAS Board of Directors and staff to remain the world leader for foot and ankle education, research, innovation, and advocacy while focusing on inclusivity and transparency.”
Upon completion of medical school at the University of Iowa, Dr. Den Hartog undertook a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Dr. Hartog’s goal as AOFAS’s new president is to expand the organizations already extensive educational program. “I am leading a strategic planning retreat in November to revisit the society’s mission and strategic priorities and to draft an action plan. My goal is to maximize the value of AOFAS membership by expanding robust educational programming, creating resources to improve practice efficiencies, and providing structure to encourage the next generation of foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons to grow in leadership roles.”
Dr. Hartog, the author of more than 25 peer-reviewed scientific papers, holds more than 30 patents for the design and development of orthopaedic implants that are used throughout the world. He indicates being inspired by mentors and past AOFAS presidents, Mark S. Myerson, M.D., and Jeffrey E. Johnson, M.D.
