GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. and DePuy Synthes, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, have entered into a distribution agreement for GE HealthCare’s 3D imaging system.

The agreement will leverage DePuy Synthes’ product portfolio to bring GE HealthCare’s imaging technology to more surgeons and patients throughout the United States. The technology represents GE HealthCare’s efforts to, per the press release, deliver “exceptional imaging technologies” to complex spine procedures. The agreement, per the press release, responds to the need for efficient imaging capabilities with the “demand for minimally invasive surgical procedures continuing to grow and ambulatory surgery centers performing more than half of all outpatient procedures in the United States.”

The 3D imaging system is GE HealthCare’s OEC 3D Imaging System. According to the company’s website, the OEC 3D Imaging System is a “true 3D/2D intraoperative imaging C-arm for precise and efficient imaging every day.” It is versatile and can be used in a variety of applications including spine, orthopedics, cardiac, and vascular. Per the press release, the system also has features for “analyzing images, noise reduction, interoperative review, and seamless workflow.”

According to the company’s website, the system has expansive volumes. Surgeons can “see more levels during a spinal fusion, or more of the pelvis or femur during an orthopedic procedure.” The OEC 3D Imaging System “captures a 67% greater volume than other 3D C-arms” because it has a “19 cm x 19 cm x 19 cm volume.”

Phil Rackliffe, the president and CEO of GE HealthCare’s Image Guided Therapies business unit, commented, “We know that GE HealthCare’s OEC 3D is a game-changer for clinicians today—from its large field of view and open platform to high-quality reconstructed 3D images.”

Rackliffe continued, “Through this new collaboration with DePuy Synthes, we’re excited for the opportunity to bring this technology to more spine practices in acute to outpatient settings knowing OEC 3D provides precise and efficient imaging so that surgeons can stay focused on what matters most, providing quality patient care.”
